As we move into September and into the Autumn months, I would like to share a summary of what the Wolverhampton City Centre Team have been up to over the month of August. 🔍 Local Priorities Our current focus areas include: · Serious Youth Violence and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) · Business Burglaries · Theft of Motor Vehicles We are conducting continued patrols, engagement activities and targeted operations within the area. Including but not limited to: high visibility patrols, engagement with businesses during night-time economy and joint partnership ASB patrols. The City Centre Team made 30 arrests this month, with offences including theft from store, assault and criminal damage. Officers have also been part of the #SaferTownsSummer campaign in Wolverhampton. This aims to provide communities an insight into activity taking place across our town centres to prevent crime, tackle anti-social behaviour and keep people safe. As we move towards Autumn and the darker nights begin to draw in, here’s some advice from the West Midlands Police Darker Nights Campaign to prevent opportunistic crime: Lock Up: The Essential Checklist Secure Every Entryway: Always lock all doors and windows before heading out or going to bed. If you have uPVC doors, ensure you lift the handle and turn the key fully to engage the multi-point locking system. Hide Your Keys: Keep house and car keys completely out of sight and away from front doors, windows, and letterboxes. Thieves frequently use hooks through letterboxes to fish keys off hallway tables. Secure the Rear: Lock your side gates, sheds, and garages. Opportunistic thieves often target the unlit back areas of properties or steal garden tools to pry open rear patio doors. Light Up: Create the Illusion of Occupancy Use Light Timers: If you are going to be out late, use manual timer plugs or smart plugs to program lamps to turn on before sunset. A house left completely in the dark signals an empty home. Close the Blinds: Shut your curtains or blinds as soon as it gets dark. This stops passers-by from window-shopping your valuables, laptops, or electronics from the street.
